Life with Maurice
Toby was the pet dog of Bright Falls citizen Maurice Horton.Template:RefRCU/Reuse A nice man, would often play with him and give him treats.Template:RefRCU/Reuse
Bright Falls AWE
On the night of September 8, 2010, Maurice took Toby for a walk, after hearing a sound coming from the undergrowth in the woods, Toby ran off. Maurice searched for the dog but couldn't find him.Template:RefRCU/Reuse At some point after, Toby sensed the smell of a familiar nice man nearby and excitedly ran to meet him. As he drew closer, however, he sensed another strange smell coming from the man, which terrified the dog, before the Taken pierced him with an axe.Template:RefRCU/Reuse His owner Maurice would later call the KBF-FM Radio Station during Pat Maine's radio show to report the missing Toby, unaware of his dog's ultimate fate.Template:RefRCU/Reuse
Personality and traits
According to his owner, Toby was a friendly dog who loved people, although he could also be "too dumb for his own good." Toby was also said to love rabbits. Toby also had a collar that featured Maurice's number on it.Template:RefRCU/Reuse He was very fond of a Bright Falls resident, with whom he would often play with and get excited when he smelt him near.Template:RefRCU/Reuse
Non-canon and dubious canon appearances
Alan Wake novelisation
In the Alan Wake novelisation, in chapter 18's end of chapter manuscript page, Toby acts slightly different, with a core difference being it is clear where Taken axed Toby.Template:RefRCU/Novel
Production notes
Originally, Toby was meant to return as a Taken animal, but Remedy Entertainment thought it was too similar to other "zombie/survival-thrillers" and cut that out as they wanted to be more original. (Need to find source)
