Professor Montgomery Marie was a researcher working as part of the Office of Naval Intelligence. In 2558 she was assigned as part of the Zeta Halo Project, ONI's scientific expedition researching Installation 07, and was present on the installation on October 29 of that year when the ringworld was taken over by the Created.[1]
Biography[edit]
Professor Marie was part of a detachment that arrived on Zeta Halo around September-October of 2558, "a few weeks" before the Created uprising which began at the end of October. Once on the ring, Marie primarily operated from a remote watchtower, using the callsign Hotel-Bravo-Three, from which she managed a flock of OQ-45 Honeybee survey drones alongside analysing the data they gathered.[1]
While working on Zeta Halo, Marie was a creature of habit and stuck to a rigid schedule which she credited as keeping her grounded in her otherwise nomadic lifestyle. On the morning of October 29, this routine was interrupted by the arrival of Cortana and the Guardian Custodes at Installation 07. Marie headed to work as usual, only to find that the remote link to her drones was inoperable, and that music was playing through the radio. The professor initially assumed this to be a prank, though was interrupted by one of the base's security staff, Private Rene Gordon, who was confused why Marie was at work as usual. The interruption caused Marie to become aware of the Guardian hovering in the sky above the ring, at which point she set out with a new goal; let out a warning to UNSC authorities on Earth about what was happening.[1] Either Marie or her peers were successful in this goal, managing to get some kind of signal out to UNSC High Command that informed them of the threat at Zeta Halo as well as information uncovered by the Zeta Halo researchers on the Domain and the Lithos nodes used to access it. While Montgomery's fate after this point is unknown, this act allowed the UNSC to prepare a series of follow-up missions over the next year that culminated in UNSC Infinity's deployment to Installation 07 and an independent effort to try and seize control of the Domain from Cortana.[2]
