The Spike Grenade is a grenade that was included in Halo 3: ODST. It is mostly identical to the original Spike Grenade that debuted in Halo 3, thanks to the two games' shared engine and tags.

Universe and lore[edit]

Campaign and Firefight[edit]

The Spike Grenade in ODST performs essentially identically as its original iteration in Halo 3, thanks to the reused weapon tag. It is a grenade commonly used by Brute enemies, capable of sticking to almost any surface bar energy barriers and Bubble Shields—including environmental geometry and enemies. After a short fuse, the grenade explodes, throwing out shrapnel in a small area around the weapon. It is an instant kill against most infantry enemies save for Hunters and Brute Chieftains, the latter of whom have special armor which means that Spike Grenades can not stick to them.

The only major difference between the grenade in Halo 3 and ODST is that in ODST, thanks to the reduced strength of the ODST player versus a Spartan, the player throws the grenade slightly slower than in Halo 3; 8.5 wu/s and 120% gravity vs Halo 3's 10 wu/s and 90% gravity. Overall, the player can not throw the grenade as far or as fast. ODST's Spike Grenade also has some extra stats to help it affect the newly-implemented stamina system in a similar way to how it affected shields in Halo 3. Otherwise, the player in ODST is able to carry four Spike Grenades, from Halo 3's limit of two.
