During the Battle for Zeta Halo, the surviving UNSC personnel from the Infinity set up at least twelve Forward Operating Bases on the fragmented section of Zeta Halo. The bases were hastily deployed to monitor Banished activities and launch incursions against raiding parties, supply depots, and other targets. There was also piece of a crashed FOB in the mountains that was never able to be deployed before the base was shot down. However, the FOB had a working comms satellite and it was used by Spartans Theodore Sorel and Vedrana Makovich to sparingly reconnect with other survivors.
