Sangheili harness

Special warfare, stealth

The Liagrul-pattern intrusion harness,[1] also known as the commando harness, is an armor system once used by the Covenant's Commando Unit.[2]

Overview[edit]

Design details[edit]

The Liagrul-pattern intrusion harness bears similarities to the standard combat harness in overall form, and differs from other intrusion harness patterns in the more comprehensive protection it offers to the wearer. Nevertheless, it is specialized for agility and stealth, using lightweight construction materials and advanced components to increase maneuverability.[2]

The helmet of the Liagrul-pattern is based on a pre-contact design pattern used by ground forces, but has been upgraded with a hardened communications uplink to ensure the Commando can keep in touch with other Covenant forces.[2] The helmet is fully sealed and has a smooth oval shape with a unique glossy finish; the same finish is used on the pauldrons.[3]

Usage[edit]

The Liagrul-pattern intrusion harness was employed by the Commando Unit, within Covenant Special Operations.[4] The armor's design bears similarity to that worn by Sangheili heroes during the Second Illumination and the Struggle for Ideological Purity.[2] It is unknown whether the harness remains in use among Covenant splinter groups.

In-game information[edit]

Halo 3[edit]

The Liagrul-pattern intrusion harness is unlockable as an armor permutation for Elite characters in Halo 3.

Production notes[edit]

  • The pauldrons of the Commando harness in Halo 3 were originally meant to be unlocked by earning the Killing Frenzy achievement. However, the unlock condition ID for the pauldrons was entered in the code as _achievement_killing_frenzy, when the actual ID for the achievement was _achievement_kill_frenzy. As a result, unlocking the Killing Frenzy achievement would not cause the pauldrons to unlock, because they were keyed to unlock on a different, non-existent achievement.[5] Bungie could not fix this mistake through an update, because it would have required players to re-download every multiplayer map, and the main menu's map file, which would total at approximately 1.11GB in size. An update of this size would not have been allowed at the time, because updates were limited to 4MB at maximum.[5] Instead, the shoulder pauldrons were made available to all players by default in a later update to the game.[6]
  • In a Bungie Weekly Update posted by Luke Smith, the Steppin' Razor achievement was incorrectly identified as the achievement meant to unlock the pauldrons,[6] when it was actually the Killing Frenzy achievement.[5]

In the post-auto update era, the Commando shoulders will be unlocked for everyone, regardless of the status of the corresponding achievement." (Retrieved on Jun 1, 2020) [archive]
