"Assorted games for teams of two. Work together or die alone, teamwork is critical here."
— In-game description for Halo 3's ranked Team Doubles playlist

Team Doubles is a ranked playlist that you play 2v2 with Team Slayer variants and Team Oddball variants.

Games usually include:

  • Team Slayer
  • Team Snipers
  • Team Shotty Snipers
  • Team Oddball

Maps are usually in the mid-sized range, including:

A limited hopper based on Team Doubles was introduced on Thursday February 14th at 10a.m. PST by Bungie, titled St. Valentine's Day Massacre" [1]. This ran until Monday 18th February, during which Bungie monitored certain actions performed by players, and gave out Recon Armour to the winners.

Tactics

As with Team slayer (6 or more players) multiple tactics can be employed

One of the most effective in Doubles team slayer and Doubles team oddball are a trap or bottle neck this involve enticing the enemy into a kill zone.

One player (A) hides in the line of fire with a one shot kill short range weapon (shotgun or sword etc) The other (B) uses ranged weapons (carbine BR or snipers) from behind A, to draw the opposing team over A who will easily dispatch them as they rush past to dispatch B In the confusion B should get lots of headshots or at least weaken them so that A has the easy job of mopping up the kills.

Using this, players can cover each other and remain far enough apart to dodge grenades and duck to cover independently.

This can be used to camp locations and if both players have one close and one mid to long range weapon roles can be reversed depending on the side they are attacked on.

With the odd ball this is reversed as the carrier will be the target but with his one hit kill he can be placed in position A again and B will have more time as fire is concentrated on the oddball carrier.

With the odd ball positions can be camped for extended periods but beware of camping in slayer, as there are always alternative routes to your location and with the oddball switching from A to B is risky.

If things go wrong always wait for teammate as rushing in to a 1 on 2 rarely accomplishes anything, grenades are fun while you wait!

On Snipers or Shotty Snipers communication is even more essential as one shot might knock the shield off somebody your team mate can mop up

Split up and keep talking make sure you can see each other as well as the enemy unless you are in decent cover.

Flanking the enemy is always useful in snipers as having to spin a full 360 makes sniping difficult.

More tips are in the sniping section.
