'''Pluto''', formal designation '''134340 Pluto''', is a dwarf planet in the [[Sol system]], and the second-largest known dwarf planet (after Eris) as well as the tenth-largest body observed directly orbiting [[Sol]]. Pluto was discovered during 1930, and was then thought to be the ninth and final planet of the Solar System. Its first moon, Charon, was discovered during 1978. During 2005, two smaller moons were discovered. During 2006, arguments began to arise on whether Pluto was actually large enough to be considered a planet. After much debate, Pluto (along with the asteroid Ceres and the object Eris) became newly classified as dwarf planets.

Pluto is a diminutive planetoid in the Sol system.[1]

Overview[edit]

There are no facilities on the dwarf-planet's surface; however, several military and scientific stations orbit Pluto,[1] including the Kelvin Research Station,[2] UNSC Monitoring Station Delta Five,[3] and the remote scanning outpost, Democritus.[4]

History[edit]

Pluto was discovered in the early 20th-century. It was originally considered a planet and thought to be causing issues in Neptune's orbit but was then downgraded to a dwarf planet when Pluto was determined to be ill-suited for that.[1]

Human-Covenant War[edit]

Main article: Human-Covenant War

On November 3, 2552, Democritus detected Cortana's signal in slipspace with Dr. Halsey's message to Fleet Admiral Terrence Hood.[4]

Created conflict[edit]

Main article: Created conflict

In October of 2558, Pluto and its orbital installations came under the control of the Created, along with the rest of the UEG's colonies in the Sol system.[5]
