As producer for the Halo film

In 2008, Peter Jackson was announced to be the executive producer for the Halo film. He was also initially the director for the film, though he decided to give the directing role to Neill Blomkamp due to his other commitments. In addition to the film production, Jackson formed Wingnut Interactive to develop and produce Halo: Chronicles.

When plans for the film fell through, Jackson and director Neill Blomkamp instead started production on District 9. Many elements from the cancelled Halo film were re-used or adapted for District 9, including the basic Warthog and Flood infection form designs.
