Since the MA2B uses the rare, and therefore largely incompatible .39 Caliber rounds, it prevented the user from acquiring more ammo from fallen foes with ease.

Description

The MA2B Assault Rifle is a cut-down version of the standard MA5B Assault Rifle. Like its relatives in the MA5 family, the MA2B is tough and reliable. It has electric targeting, an ammo supply indicator, and a recoil-reduction system. The MA2B can deliver an impressive fifteen rounds per second and uses .390 caliber ammunition.[1]

The Spartans were known to carry this weapon into action, usually when they were required to carry very little ordnance for a mission e.g. John used an MA2B Assault Rifle on his very first real mission, the attempt to capture Colonel Robert Watts of the Eridanus Rebels.

One of the probable reasons that the Spartans chose the MA2B over the MA5B for missions is because of the weapon's larger magazine size, a feature which allows the user to maximize his ammo-carrying capacity without needing to carry excess bulky magazines.

Trivia

  • The MA2B not only uses AP rounds but "Shredder" rounds made from depleted uranium.
  • The MA2 also offers an extended magazine for larger firefights.
