Template:Ratings There are two methods to this glitch, the second being the more painstaking.

Method One

To complete this glitch you need to go to Forge on Sandtrap. Once you spawn, go into forge mode and spawn a Scorpion tank, take it to one of the Elephants and line the front of Scorpion with the back of the Elephant. Go forward and if done correctly, the Scorpion will be inside the Elephant. Go up and there you go, a flying elephant. You can take it all across the map. For more fun, flip it upside down and get at least 3 people on it. Once everyone is on, flip it. It might kill you and them but it will count as a splatter! Try it out some time.

Method Two

200px|right Another method requires that you first remove all Fusion Coils and Plasma Batteries from Sandtrap using Forge.. Then, inside of an Elephant, spawn as many Fusion Coils and Plasma Batteries as possible -- preferably in the back area. Then, set both items' Run-Time Minimum settings to the highest possible values. From here, you may detonate the group of explosives using any method, though Hornet missiles can create an even more spectacular result than other methods.

First, the Elephant will buck from the missiles, but with the Fusion Coils instantly respawning, the force of the explosion will start to carry it skyward. Once the Elephant clears enough ground to begin orbit, it will not come down unless interfered with. Despite being very high in the air, the Elephant will only travel around the outer ring of the map, as there are Elephant-only invisible barriers that prevent it from going anywhere else.

This method has actually been described in a Bungie.net Weekly Update.[1]

"Petar, one of our engineers, found a saved film from one of our testers playing on Sandtrap. He basically placed a RIDICULOUS number of exploding fusion cores on and inside the Elephant vehicle. They had their respawn times set to as close to “instant” as Forge allows, so that every time one exploded, it respawned. Now, it doesn’t take a genius to figure out what kind of chain reaction this would cause once a single core was detonated.
What we didn’t expect was the effect it had on the Elephant physics. Now the huge metal beastie is indestructible, but it has weight and mass in the game universe, so explode it enough and you can move it. Explode it with a never-ending cascade of fusion cores and you have the most dangerous Halo item ever. A vehicle big enough to park a Scorpion a Hog and two Mongooses inside, flipping around at incredible speeds and tumbling all over the map, releasing exploding cores and the occasional vehicle like some kind of satanic piñata."

Method Three

Proceed like method two, except after you place all the fusion coils, you the place a trip mine on top, then use the Immediate Spawn technique and throw them off the front. Then, before they explode, get in the driver seat, and drive on top of them. After so, hang on.

Random Glitch Method

200px|right You DO NOT need Forge for this method. Sometimes in matchmaking or large custom games, the elephant will begin to sink into the ground for some reason. When objects begin to sink in the ground, they will be forced back out. The reason why they sink is most likely caused by lag. In the case of the elephant, when it sinks too much, it will be shot out of the ground and the elephant will be sent flying. Usually it isn't sent too high. But in cases of extreme lag, it can be shot all the way across the map. In most cases, the elephant will simply do a barrel roll and land upside down which will give you the hidden elephant message. The more people and objects that are on the elephant, the more likely it is to glitch. A theory is that this is caused by the "bump" in Halo 3 where when you approach objects you can interact with, they will "bump".
