First Battle of Mombasa

The Battle of New Mombasa was a battle between United Nations Space Command and Covenant forces that took place in the UNSC city New Mombasa on the planet Earth on October 20, 2552.

Battle

Between 0150 and 01630 hours- The Covenant start deploying forces in the area, including a Scarab for heavy armor. Three Pelicans are sent from the In Amber Clad. The Pelican carrying Sergeant Johnson and Master Chief is shot down by the Scarab and the remaining crew hunker down at an isolated position and wait for extraction. Gunnery Sergeant Pete Stacker and an ODST squad, who were onboard the second Pelican, are also shot down. They move up the beach to the Hotel Zanzibar and set up a command post after killing several Covenant soldiers. They wipe out several Covenant units along the way.

The Chief's group, still awaiting extraction, kills several waves of attacking Covenant forces, including two Hunters. Finally, the third Pelican from the flight finds the group and lands reinforcements in a demolished area. Sergeant Johnson is extracted to help organize armored units entering the city. Pinned down units in Hotel Zanzibar are rescued by Spartan 117, who makes his way by Warthog towards the bridge. UNSC forces at the bridge are decimated as the Scarab blows through any and all Marine defenders.

Spartan 117 arrives at the bridge to assess situation; reinforcments are dropped, including a Scorpion Main Battle Tank. The Chief travels across the bridge linking Old Mombassa and New Mombassa, destroying the assaulting Covenant forces along the way. The 405th out of Diego Garcia makes landfall at the city square and are quickly surrounded by Covenant troops.

The 105th ODST unit, lead by Spartan 117, are called to city square for a last defense. The assault on the city square is major, due to the fact there are multiple Wraiths and Ghosts. After fending off the assault, the 405th try the Scarab by using a Scorpion MBT against it.

The Scarab quickly destroys the Scorpion and climbs over City Square into the Canals. It trys to find an outlet, rapidly moving through the high-walled waterways.

The Chief follows the Scarab along a causeway until the machine reaches a point where it cannot continue. He then jumps onto the Scarab, killing the Covenant forces above- and below-deck. Upon destroying the Scarab, he is extracted by a Pelican and returned to the In Amber Clad. The Prophet of Regret's Assault Carrier, still above New Mombassa, prepares to jump away from Earth. The Pelican carrying Master Chief enters the Frigate, which follows the Assault Carrier into Slipspace. New Mombassa and all of the beings still within it are vaporized as the Carrier jumps.
