Summary

Charlie Company was a group of marines on Reach that fought a legion of the Covenant. Their exploits are mentioned in Halo: First Strike. They were ordered by Admiral Whitcomb to get the Nova Bombs, weapons so powerful that they could turn the tides in space battles and had enough explosive energy to destroy whole planets. They used handheld weapons, Warthogs, Scorpions, and Gun Turrets. They were led by Lieutenant Buckman and Lieutenant Jake Chapman. During the fight, an airstrike was called, though the Longsword pilots messed up and bombed many of the soldiers, killing Buckman. Chapman, with help via radio from Admiral Whitcomb, pulled his men together and fought back against the extraterrestrials, killing many of the creatures. The remaining troops eventually defeated the aliens, though at the end of the battle, only a Corporal and three marines were alive out of two hundred men. They were later found by Spartan-029 (Joshua), Spartan-087 (Kelly), Spartan-104 (Fred), and the remaining Spartans. After telling Fred about their battle, they were ordered to reach a rendezvous point in two warthogs with the 6 wounded Spartans. This team of marines and hurt Spartans was called Team Delta.

They were separated from the rest of Spartan-043's team and lost contact. If they survived is unknown, but they were in the company of three other Spartans when they dissappeared.

NOTE: Charlie Company is only part of a larger unit, which is never specifically named. It is standard to name different companies of a unit by letter, so theoretically, there is a "Charlie Company" in every Division of troops. Note this to clear any potential confusion.

NOTE: While the description above is correct in a sense, it isn't exactly following any standard military structure. Companies, by definition are sub-units of Battalions, so you don't normally recognise a single Company in a larger Division, for example: "C Company/X Division". It should read smallest unit to largest, for example: "C Company/X Battalion/X Regiment-Brigade/X Division". (Divisions equal in the region of 10000 to 20000 troops). Normal military structure is as follows:

  • 3 - 4 Platoons = 1 Company
  • 3 - 4 Companies = 1 Battalion
  • 3 - 4 Battalions = 1 Regiment/Brigade
  • 3 - 4 Regiments/Brigades = 1 Division

There will be a "Charlie Company" in every Battalion, so the number of Companies with the desgination "Charlie" will equal 3 - 4 in a Regiment/Brigade. Extrapolate that out to take in a whole Division and the number of "Charlie Companies" could equal 12 - 16 following the structure above.
