The main section of the Ghost that protects the Fuel Cell is its hood, however, the hood can be destroyed after taking sufficient damage, and afterwards it only takes an Assault Rifle clip to destroy the vehicle. The hood can sustain the damage of one Spike or Plasma grenade, but only if the explosion is not too close to the Fuel Cell.

The Fuel Cell is circled.

The Fuel Cell is a glowing blue and grey barrel located behind the left wing on the Ghost that is a Ghost's primary weakness. One well placed shot can take out the Ghost when it is hit in the fuel cell, making it of the upmost importance to aim for. It was only lethal to the driver of a Ghost in Halo 2, as in Halo 3 it does not function the same way it did in Halo 2.

It provides the engines and the twin plasma cannons of the Ghost with its stored plasma supply.

An explosion big enough to destroy the Ghost can be triggered if it is hit with a single bullet from such weapons that are able to cause a Headshot.
