UNSC Cartographer Initiative

From Halopedia, the Halo wiki

The Cartographer Initiative designs maps used in War Games simulation exercises.

The UNSC Cartographer Initiative is a United Nations Space Command recruiting program for aspiring War Games simulation map designers. With many departments stretched thin as the UNSC struggles to maintain a cohesive presence across colonized space, the military began the Cartographer Initiative to recruit much-needed map designers. This led to an influx of fledgling simulation environments incorporating new architectural ideologies and advanced tactical challenges to help keep Spartan Operations operating efficiently.[1]

The Cartographer Initiative operates Munera Platforms for simulation purposes. They operated one such experimental platform at Perihelion Station starting in 2554, and used it to test out MJOLNIR GEN2 armor.[2] In 2559 it was again used to test out MJOLNIR GEN3 alongside ORCUS exoskeletons. Sergeant Marcus Stacker worked with the Cartographer Initiative's technicians to create new arenas to simulate varied environments from urban combat to Forerunner installations and more.[3]

Production notes[edit]

First mentioned in issue 68 of Canon Fodder,[1] the UNSC Cartographer Initiative is the in-universe explanation for the presence of Forge maps in Halo multiplayer.
