Talk:Operation: PROMETHEUS

From Halopedia, the Halo wiki

Oh wow[edit]

300 Spartans? None of whom survive but save the UNSC?

Has April fools come early? :P Blastcage 16:30, 14 September 2007 (UTC)

It was a suicide mission. It's detailed in Halo: Ghosts of Onyx. --Dragonclaws(talk) 19:51, 14 September 2007 (UTC)

UNSC Arbiters?[edit]

It could be possible that this operation was like an Arbiter mission for the SPARTAN-III's, seeing it as a suicide mission. Lovemuffin 04:52, 9 March 2008 (UTC)

Contradiction[edit]

Only two survive? Only three survive? Which is it? —This unsigned comment was made by SPARTAN-225 (talkcontribs). Please sign your posts with ~~~~

Halo reach error[edit]

Somone should change the amount of spartans sent in the operation to 297 cause three were taken out before the deployment. SPARTAN-225

It's not an error - there were more than 300 members of Beta company, just like the Alpha and Gammas. You didn't think he'd cut dozens of decent candidates out of the program because they didn't make 300, right?-- Forerunner 01:45, 15 June 2011 (EDT)
I think SPARTAN-225 is right cause i just finished reading ghosts of onyx and it said that there was only enough room for 300 spartans for alpha company and also in beta company, the only company that had more was gamma with the exception of 340 spartans. Alex-223 16:18 17 june 2011 (EDT)

No the novel clearly says there's more than 300 Spartans in each company "A Penny saved is a Penny earned" 00:19, 17 June 2011 (EDT)

Um i don't believe so. The novel says there were over 300 candidates but they only had enough room for 300 and the same went with beta company, Kurt was lucky enough to get the exception of 340 in gamma company. SPARTAN-225 23:59, 17 June 2011 (EDT)
Only enough for 300 to go on suicide mission, read forerunner's statement again. "A Penny saved is a Penny earned" 00:01, 18 June 2011 (EDT)
There's still another 118 candidates available - I'm sure they could have expanded for these guys - the Headhunters were separated from their companies and trained for their own missions without affecting the number of SPARTANs in major assaults. If any of you have Ghosts of Onyx with you right now could you check how the Alpha company conscripts are referred to on the dropship - does Kurt use their tags?-- Forerunner 05:26, 18 June 2011 (EDT)

Lessons Learned[edit]

Does Lessons Learned actually mention PROMETHEUS? As far as I recall from the preview (which may or may not have been official) it (rather embarrassingly) claimed Jun was part of Beta Company and was pulled out before TORPEDO. I suppose this could be classified as an indirect mention of PROMETHEUS, but still. --Jugus (talk) 10:25, 18 September 2016 (EDT)

Technically, as you said, it's mentioned that Jun was pulled from his company before the rest of his company went on an operation that killed them all. Except the company is mistakenly referred to as Beta Company, while the operation is mistakenly referred to as TORPEDO. Otherwise, I don't see any mention of PROMETHEUS. I'm not certain about the preview's officialness but given that Grim is kind of addressing things that have occurred in the preview, I think it's safe to say that it's good. Also 90% certain that Grim said that they will fix the mistake before the novel comes out, so maybe the operation mistake will be corrected as well. --NightHammer(talk)(contribs) 14:53, 18 September 2016 (EDT)
Edit: after looking at the tweet, I don't think it got fixed in time. Grim "Indeed, was definitely flagged for change, but sometimes things just slip through. Can't win em all lol. Jun is still alpha". --NightHammer(talk)(contribs) 14:56, 18 September 2016 (EDT)
I'd still say this makes the mention an indirect one, since they don't actually mention PROMETHEUS or Alpha Company by name even though that's what they're canonically referring to. But it's an unusual case. --Jugus (talk) 00:37, 19 September 2016 (EDT)

Image[edit]

Where is it confirmed that the Mythos illustration depicts PROMETHEUS? I don't have Mythos yet, so I can't check myself, but from what I've seen I was under the impression the particular operation wasn't identified in the book. --Jugus (talk) 00:29, 23 September 2016 (EDT)

Yeah pretty sure it isn't confirmed. The page literally just talks about the Spartan-IIIs and does not indicate which event the picture is depicting. --00:31, 23 September 2016 (EDT)
It can't be Prometheus or Torpedo. The S-III on the right page is using a BR55HB. So said image has to take place between 2548-2552.Sith Venator Mega Blastoise.gif (Dank Memes) 00:44, 23 September 2016 (EDT)

Doesn't it have to be one of the two? Torpedo would mean a lot more orange in the sky/atmosphere, hence it being Prometheus. The battle rifle could be an anachronism, sure, or just be taken as a step between the BR55 and the BR55HB

It could always be a Gamma Company op, though I suspect it may just be an archetypical illustration of an S-III mission. Regardless, it's best to avoid making definite claims when we don't know for sure.--Jugus (talk) 03:38, 23 September 2016 (EDT)

August 2[edit]

What is the source for the battle lasting till August 2? In Ghosts of Onyx Kurt is shown footage of all the Spartans dying on July 30.TheEld (talk) 22:40, May 3, 2019 (EDT)TheEld
