In the November issue of GameInformer, they interviewed Marcus Letho and they asked him if the SII in cryo was in fact Master Chief.
He replied with: "That is in fact the Master Chief. We felt that if he were to show up anywhere, this was the place to do it. Placing him in the "hushed casket" was the one way we felt his presence in Reach would be appropriate.
