Commander Keyes immediately assembled her crew for battle, intending to assist the rest of the fleet. During the opening actions of the engagement, Fleet Admiral [[Joseph Harper]] led the [[Fifth Fleet]], which included a force of sixty-seven ''Stalwart''-class vessels in defending Earth.
