Scarabs are quadrupedal mining platforms that are part of a larger class of constructs known as [[Excavator]]s. Out of nine tiers of Excavators they are classed tier-four on its scale. Scarabs are all fitted with a [[focus cannon]] for destroying targets or mining operations.{{Ref/Reuse|HWU}} Scarabs are driven by hundreds of [[Rhulolekgolo]], which function as a gestalt intelligence. For this reason, the Scarab was not formally considered a vehicle by the Covenant, but was employed as an ultra-heavy infantry unit directed by a single colony of [[Lekgolo]]. *Like all known [[Excavator]]s, the Scarab is named after [[Wikipedia:Scarabaeus sacer|an insect]] rather than a supernatural entity like most [[Covenant]] vehicles. However, scarabs do have significant supernatural relevance in Egyptian mythology.
*There are two ways to destroy a scarab in the halo 3 level [[ The Covenant]]. You can hop into a [[hornet]] and fire rockets at the back of the scarab behind the battery of the scarab or you can hijack a [[ghost]] and do it the hard way which involves shooting it with the plasma turrets until it shuts down then you hop on and destroy the battery.
