The Prefect variant was based on Halo: Chronicles concept art for a "Promethean" (unrelated to the Prometheans now-known in canon) by Isaac Hannaford. It was designed for Halo 4 by concept artist Sean Bigham.

The first trailer for the Champions Bundle DLC showed the Prefect armor with a different design on the armor's wrists, an added decal for Chalybs Defense Solutions on the helmet's forehead, and the player's secondary color applied to their player model's fingertips. These would be altered for the DLC's launch.
