==History==
The Elder is a specialized rank for Hunters in [[Jul 'Mdama's Covenant]]. Its name suggests that they are based on Hunters that have survived a considerable number of combat encounters or given to the best of the hunter troopers possible commanding and leading Covenant into battle.{{Ref/Mode|H5G|Warzone Firefight}} The rank was most likely formed in [[2558]] ,though most likely called something else, when [[Jul 'Mdama]] captured [[Catherine Halsey|Dr Halsey]] to access the [[Janus Key]] and other Forerunner technology for the benefits of his Covenant and his [[Battle for Sanghelios|war]] against the [[Thel 'Vadam|Arbiter]] and the [[Swords of Sanghelios]] and for other skirmishes involving Jul's Covenant in the [[Cortana Event]]. Aside from Jul's arsenal, Elders were used primarily in [[Warzone]] simulations as a heavy boss unit to train [[SPARTAN-IV program|SPARTAN-IVs]].{{Ref/Reuse|H5G}}

Like many specialized [[Mgalekgolo]] they consist of red armor an [[Assault cannon]] and a heavy shield with variations from other Hunter armors such as the ones from [[Halo: Combat Evolved]], [[Halo 3]] and [[Halo Infinite]], however their mythic variant, the more well known appearance of an Elder, consists of white armor and heavy [[Assault cannon]] similar in appearance to [[Swarmlord]]s or an [[Evocati|Ultra]] in [[Ke 'Nzahz's Evocati]] or other [[Covenant remnants|Remnant]].{{Ref/Game|H5G}}
