Longshore Easter eggs
From Halopedia, the Halo wiki
On the Halo 3 multiplayer level, Longshore, there are a variety of Easter eggs mostly referencing the in-universe food brand Fronk's Formed Fish.
Suck it Fronk
In the back corner of the map's freezer room, as seen on signs labelling it, the words "Suck it Fronk" can be seen. Like the Seasonal Signs on the map Zanzibar in Halo 2, or the Holiday Wall Messages on the map Valhalla, the message seen in the freezer changes on certain dates. These dates coincide with holidays and are as follows:
- On 01/01 (New Year's), the sign reads "Flash Freeze This" (Most likely a reference to the popular show Futurama when the main character is flash frozen on New Years day 2000).
- On 04/22 (Earth Day), an image of Fronk appears with the words "Save me" above him and "Eat Beef" below him. This is possibly a reference to the popular Advice Dog images found throughout the internet, as two completely different and unrelated pieces of advice are listed above and below a dogs head.
- On 05/05 (Cinco de Mayo), the sign reads "Root Beer @ Bob's".
- On 07/04 (US Independance Day), the sign reads "Home of The Free".
- On 07/07 (Bungie Day), the sign reads "7/7/7".
- On 10/31 (Halloween), the Oddball icon appears.
- On 11/11 (Veteran's Day), an image of a Spartan's hand giving a "rock on" gesture appears.
- On 12/25 (Christmas), an image of the Seventh Column appears.
Fronk's Fish taco shack
At the corner of the map's docks lies a shack with a sign depicting Fronk and the text "Fish Tacos" underneath. To the right of this sign is the menu for the Taco Shack's "Daily Specials." Like the Suck it Fronk messages, this menu changes on certain dates. Each date coincides with holidays and are as follows:
Daily Specials
New Years Specials
Earth Day Specials
Cinco de Mayo especiales
|
Independance Specials
Bungie Day Specials
Halloween Specials
|
Veterans Day Specials
- M - Marty Army (a reference to Martin O'Donnell, Bungie's audio director and composer at the time.)
- T - Tied the Leader (a reference to the quote by Jeff Steitzer in Halo 2's multiplayer.)
- W - Halo.bungie.org (a direct reference to the Halo fansite created by Claude Errera in 1999.)
- Th - Arby n' the Chief (a direct reference to the online, live-action/Machinima hybrid series by Jon Graham.)
- F - RvB (a reference to the online Machinima series Red vs. Blue created by Rooster Teeth Productions.)
I'm Paul Russel
An image of a pie is depicted along with the text "I'm Paul Russel."
Animated Fronk painting
On the two main bases on either side of the Fronk Fish Processing Plant there are paintings of Fronk. At the beginning of the match, Fronk's eyes are squinting, but after enough time his eyes will open up in stages. Each stage of opening takes multiple minutes to occur. The animation is best viewed in this video at the timestamp 50:34.
Longshore Skull
One of three skulls found in Halo 3's Mythic II Map Pack can be found on Longshore. It is found between the ventilation shafts beside a Fronk's Formed Fish sign on the side of the map opposite the Taco Shack. Head for the aircraft carrier and then turn right. It can only be found in Forge or Theater.
Dead rats
Two dead rats can be found on the docks of Longshore in two separate locations:
- The first rat can be found in the fryer at Fronk's Fish taco shack.
- The second rat can be found impaled on a bird control spike atop a lightpost on the side of the map with the Taco Shack.
Trivia
- It is possible to see the messages/menus when it is not the correct date. First put the date of one of the message/menu in the Xbox or PC options and then play Halo 3 (while not connected to the internet or Xbox Live) and go to Longshore. If done correctly, the corresponding holiday message/menu should appear.
