History[edit]

Halowars.com launched on September 27, 2006 after the Microsoft X06 media briefing that revealed Halo Wars, with a forum sub-domain on forums.halowars.com where readers and users could talk to one another. This version of the site only had the Trailer, Images, a FAQ, and a link to the forums on it.

By August 5, 2007 the site had a massive overhaul, where "News" was made a prominent section of the site, and the forums were incorporated fully into the main domain, with the forums sub-domain remaining active till at least December 12, 2007.

On November 16, 2010,[2] 343 Industries announced that Halowars.com and Halo Wars Online Stat Tracking would no longer be supported. Along with the act, 343 Industries & Halo Waypoint planned to release one final Title Update (TU5) to fix a cutscene bug in Theater from TU4, and to unlink/disconnect the game from the site and moving the forums to Halo Waypoint's.[3]

On December 8th, 2010,[4] however, 343 Industries and Halo Waypoint announced a reversal in their decision to cease Online Stat Tracking, citing they were "...always uncomfortable with the idea...", and "...decided that the current plan of action was not in line with how we have always intended to support Halo games and the Halo franchise in general." Regardless of this decision, the Halo Wars Forums were still merged with Waypoint's forums and Title Update 5 would still be released.

On February 7, 2018, Brian Jarrard announced on Halo Waypoint that the halowars.com URL was being retired, due to aging hardware and security issues inherent with a website that had been up for nearly ten years. The original Xbox 360 release of the game still remained playable, though the in-game population counter was now permanently nonfunctional. The Halo Wars: Definitive Edition was unaffected. On March 30, all halowars.com URLs redirected to halowaypoint, making the website defunct.[5]
