Service history

In service:

Post-Covenant War conflicts

The Hailstorm owes much to a pre-Covenant weapon used during the volatile early-interstellar period of Sangheili history. Improved Needler which fires fast-moving crystal shards that exhibit strong homing behavior.[3]

The Hailstorm is a variant of the Type-56D Needler.

Overview[edit]

The Hailstorm is an upgraded variant of the standard Type-56D Needler.

The shell of the weapon is adorned with a red stripe and features Sangheili symbols inscribed in white and a large one in red. The weapon is modified to fire the Subanese crystals faster, and the crystals have a stronger homing behavior, which allow them to tracks enemies from farther distances. It carries more crystals in its magazine than a standard Needler.[3][4]

In-game information[edit]

The Hailstorm is one of the 2 available variants of the Needler in Halo 5: Guardians.

Advantages[edit]

The Hailstorm excels in supercombines, as it fires faster than a normal Needler and the projectiles fly much faster. Due to its 33-shard magazine, it carries 132 crystals in reserve.

Disadvantages[edit]

Aside from its faster projectiles and fire rate, stronger homing and extended magazine, it acts like a standard Needler.

It does pitiful damage against vehicles.
