The GTAS was originally developed by the Colonial Military Authority and it was considered the best and cheapest armor system by the time of its introduction. The armor was then adopted by the UNSC Marine Corps as part of their battle dress uniforms. Although greatly outperforming the newer armor systems in thermal and ballistic protection, it fell out of favor with the UNSC Marine Corps due both to its weight and awkward wear, and its cost in comparison to the newer, lighter, and more cost-effective body armor system. It was largely rendered defunct by 2525, but elements of the GTAS went on to influence the armor systems worn with the cross-branch BDU worn by Army troopers and Air Force pilots. Despite its age and percieved lack of efficiency, it was requisitioned and worn by the Marine units attached to the UNSC Pillar of Autumn in preparation for Operation: RED FLAG, but after the Fall of Reach, the GTAS instead saw use in the Battle of Installation 04. By 2560, the GTAS was made compatible with Spartan operatives wearing [[MJOLNIR Powered Assault Armor (GEN3)|MJOLNIR [GEN3]]].{{Ref/Game|Id=GTASKG|HI|Armor permutations (Halo Infinite)|Armor Customization|Detail=GTAS Knee Guards Utility Description|Quote=Cheap and met the CMA contractual requirements.
