Flood Spawners are an example of the Flood's adaptiveness to changing situations; they were first created during the [[Outbreak on Installation 00]] in mid-[[2559]], in response to the defenses put up by the [[Banished]] and [[Sentinel]]s on [[Installation 00|the Ark]].{{Ref/Reuse|PL}} They were first let loose during the [[Clan of the Long Shields]]' opening of [[High Charity]]'s wreckage,{{Ref/Level|HW2|Section=Halo Wars 2: Awakening the Nightmare|SectionLinkText=Awakening the Nightmare|What Could Go Wrong?}} before being used to spread the [[Flood outbreak]] to new [[refugia]].{{Ref/Reuse|PL}}

The Spawner's most notable feature is the brood sac hanging down from its body. Similarly to static [[Flood blister|blisters]], these sacs can be used to grow [[infection form]]s of all kinds.{{Ref/Reuse|Enc22}} During a Flood assault, Spawners sit near the back of the swarm and continuously spawn [[Infection form]]s to continue besieging an enemy force, changing forms depending on the type of enemies they are faced with.{{Ref/Reuse|PL}}

Spawners serve as the Flood's rough equivalent of a troop transport carrier and - in gameplay purposes - the Flood's answer to either the [[UNSC]]'s [[M650 Mastodon]] or the [[Banished]]'s [[Eklon'Dal Workshop Wraith Invader|Wraith Invader]], although they function differently than a conventional troop transport.

Spawners will take position in the Fog of War and begin spawning either [[Pod infector/Gameplay|Pod infectors]], [[Flood infester form|Infesters]] or [[Seeder infector]]s, depending on what is effective against the units the player is using. However, Spawners are slow, and will succumb to heavy firepower when faced with a diverse array of units.
