Background
According to The Ballad of Hamish Beamish, the Jamaica was an automated transport vessel that ferried would-be cadets to the Corbulo Academy of Military Science on Circinius IV. During one particular slipspace voyage, a cryo chamber malfunctioned and opened a decade before the ship arrived at its destination. The poor occupant, young Master Hamish Beamish, was informed by the starship's onboard AI that he'd have to complete the voyage without a spare cryotube and with little to no resources available. In order to stay warm and survive, Hamish burned his own hair as fuel and averted starvation by eating his nails. As the years passed, Hamish played his kazoo to fight off solitude and he became accustomed to life aboard the ship. When the UNSC Jamaica finally arrived at Corbulo Academy, Hamish Beamish was thirty years of age and had become completely mad.[1]
