History
It was stationed in a Tanzanian jungle in Africa, Earth, during the Battle of Earth and was part of the Marine force that found SPARTAN-117 after his atmospheric landing. When the Spartan was revived, during the UNSC extraction operation from the jungle, Sergeant Major Avery J. Johnson assumed command of First Squad, ordering them to deploy and move out as his scouts.
First Squad was presumably extracted with Johnson via Pelican Dropship and taken prisoner by the Brutes in the subsequent interception of their dropship. The survivors, including Johnson, were then rescued by the Master Chief and Thel 'Vadam. First Squad was led by Gunnery Sergeant Stacker before Johnson assumed command.
