Eridanus rebels

Summary

The Eridanus Rebels are an armed faction of humans who have rebelled against the UNSC and its government. There have always been wars and insurrection but the Eridanus Rebels were one of few organized revolutions to endure. The rebels are based out of the Eridanus Star System

The Eridanus Rebels utilized everything from upgraded Pelican dropships to civilian corvettes to Chiroptera-class prowlers as an improvised fleet. They had several at least a hundred such vessels in their fleet at any one time.

History

In 2513, a space battle occoured between the Eridanus Rebels and the UNSC, Operation: TREBUCHET. In the battle the UNSC was victorious however four UNSC destroyers were destroyed in the battle. Unfortunately elements of the rebellion esceaped into the nearby Eridanus Asteroid Belt.

In 2525, the Office of Naval Intelligence reported that it had uncovered a breach within FLEETCOM: several spies for the organization. They had also discovered that the rebels were led by a Colonel Robert Watts and that they had connections to the outside world and were being supplied by outside sources such as the Cargo freighter Laden. That year a group of Spartans underwent a covert operation and captured Watts from the very heart of the rebel operation, the rebel stronghold at Eridanus Secundus.

In 2552 the Spartans returned to the belt aboard the UNSC Gettusburg-Ascendant Justice hibrid vessel to make repairs. Governor Jacob Jiles was the leader of the rebels at that time. After a beief discourse with Admiral Whitcomb, A Covenant cruiser appeared in the system, following the trail of the vessel. After a short fight the covenant ship was destroyed with severe damage done to the Gettysburg-Ascendant Justice. Several days later three dozen Covenant vessels appeared in the system, forcing the Gettysburg-Ascendat Justicw to retreat. The Covenant then eradicated the base. As far as we know, the Eridanus Rebels were massacred in the process.
