The Energy Disruptor is a UNSC device that has been said to be reverse engineered from the Power Drain[1]. It deactivates both standard electronics and the plasma based weapons and energy shielding of the Covenant[2], which have been noted to be very sturdy pieces of technology by UNSC soldiers. However it executes its effect, it seems to be easily blocked by any amount of cover, as evidenced when the SPARTAN-III Jonah waited just outside a Covenant barraks while the Energy Disruptor did its work.[3]

Mechanics

The most likely method that this device uses is a demagnetization effect, exuded in a single pulse, which would cause high damage to electronics and disable Covenant Plasma Weaponry. It would do so by disabling their ability to utilize magnetic fields, which shape and contain their projectiles.
