Summary
SkyHawks were older orbital jets located on major UNSC worlds. They were equipped with 4 50mm guns, as well as Scorpion Anti Tank missiles. Several of these craft were located at Fairchild Field on Reach and one was dispatched by Colonel James Ackerson to attack the Master Chief and Cortana during their test of the MJOLNIR armor and its new shield technology in 2552.
The Skyhawk is a "jump jet" VTOL (Vertical Take Off and Landing) atmospheric attack fighter. It is armed with a four sets of 50mm gatling guns, as well as a number of Scorpion Missiles which are more than capable of destroying tanks. Its ability to take off and land vertically like the Pelican makes it useful in situations where the landing zone has no runway. These characteristics make it the closest human equivalent to the Banshee, although considerably larger, and with heavier and more specialized weaponry.
What is assumed to be a SkyHawk can be seen in the Halo Wars trailer, during a UNSC battle against Covenant forces. However, it is actually a Shortsword that is in the trailer.
