==Biography==
When the ''Pillar of Autumn'' fled the [[Battle of Reach]] and found itself at [[Installation 04]], Valdez persisted in his duties tending the wounded and dead even as the [[Covenant]] began to board the ship. As the fight progressed he, together with the remaining ODSTs, sought to defend the engine room where his medical skills were used to treat [[First Lieutenant]] [[Melissa McKay]] for a plasma burn on her arm.<ref>[[Halo: The Flood]], pages 33/32</ref>

Valdez' fate is unknown as is whether he died aboard ship or evacuated to the surface of the installation to be later killed along the way.

*Because medics in the [[UNSC Marine Corps]] were Navy Corpsmen, not technically Marines, Valdez may have in fact been a [[Petty Officer]]. If true, then being the senior medic in his platoon, he would have been a Petty Officer 2nd or 1st class, the equivalent of a sergeant.
