A long time ago the ancient precursors created the Forerunners and the Humans. They were lazy and gave the responsibility to the Humans and got bored of the Forerunners and tried to start anew. This was their demise. The last Precursors turned into sentient dust. Yes sentient Dust. Thats the Flood. But the Humans put it on their dogs and that didn’t go well. Long story short in order to destroy the Flood they built 7 rings and a giant Machine they named the Ark. then it didn’t work and was destroyed so they built a smaller ark and made eleven smaller rings that killed everything but the flood. The flood starved to death except for some in stacis on the Halo Rings.
