The SPARTAN-IIIs were deployed in combat against Covenant forces at the [[Battle of Installation 04/Silver|Battle for the Halo ring]].{{Ref/Film|Id=Halo|TV|Episode=[[Halo (TV Series)|Halo]]}} Their main trainer was spartan Kai-125. Their use in the battle for the Halo was somewhat suicidal, as each squad of SPARTAN-IIIs had special weapons called Spikes, which could deliver a virus to the Covenant ships and explode the whole system as well as the First Fleet of Solemn Accord. This is why Margaret Parangosky kept sending them as she only needed one of the squadrons to succeed to end the battle. We do not know if any of the ships were detonated, though Kai-125 was the closest to activating one.
