==Background==
During the Requiem campaign in February 2558, [[Promethean]] forces allied with [[Jul 'Mdama's Covenant]] launched an attack on "The Refuge", where the science team from {{UNSCShip|Infinity}} were studying the [[Forerunner]] [[shield world]]'s local [[slipspace translocation]] technology. [[Fireteam Crimson]], stationed at "The Refuge", identified and disabled the device that enabled the Prometheans to teleport into the facility.{{Ref/SpOps|Memento Mori|Nothing Can Go Wrong}} Crimson remained at the facility until additional UNSC forces arrived to secure the location. However, upon the arrival of [[Warbird Company]], the ''Panom's Canticle'' arrived and launched a second assault on "The Refuge".{{Ref/Reuse|SO}} [[Ryn 'Alun]], the ''Panom's Canticle''{{'}}s shipmaster, was tasked with repelling the UNSC forces at "The Refuge".{{Ref/Reuse|VU}} For this, he deployed his personal special unit, the [[Silent Blade]].{{Ref/Reuse|SO}}

Crimson was immediately occupied with repelling ground forces, and unable to address the source of the attack.{{Ref/Reuse|SO}} Meanwhile, Fireteam Shadow—composed of Spartans [[Horatio Fry]], [[Nina Kovan]], [[Bonita Stone]], and [[Jason Kidman]]—were dispatched to another location on the shield world to neutralize a Covenant firebase established two days earlier, and serving to produce fighters. In the middle of the operation, Fry was contacted by Crimson's handler Jared Miller, who reassigned Fireteam Shadow on a priority operation to destroy the cruiser ''Panom's Canticle'' at "The Refuge". Being too far from their Pelican, Shadow stole a Phantom from the firebase's [[Covenant Summit|summit site]] to quickly respond to Miller's request.{{Ref/Reuse|VU}}

Aboard the stolen Phantom, Fireteam Shadow took advantage of the surprise to rush into the ''Panom's Canticle'' hangar before the shields were activated by the crew. Shipmaster 'Alun, certain that the intruders would attack the reactor core, led several other Sangheili to the reactor room.{{Ref/Reuse|VU}}

Shadow made rapid progress through the ship, but encountered heavy resistance as the Spartans approached the core. While Fry, Kovan, and Kidman cleared out the last Covenant troops in the hallway leading to the main reactor room, Stone had already used her [[active camouflage]] to infiltrated the chamber. When the three Spartans burst into the hall, they were faced with 'Alun, who was accompanied by a dozen Silent Blade Sangheili. The two parties also engaged in combat and Fry was pinned to the ground by 'Alun, who nearly killed him with his energy sword, but Stone, still camouflaged, intervened and threw the Sangheili aside.{{Ref/Reuse|VU}}

Kovan armed herself with the [[Selene's Lance]]—an enhanced variant of the [[M6/E Spartan Laser]]—and fired at the core five times, causing the reactor to overload. 'Alun ordered his crew to abandon ship; Stone made an attempt to intercept the fleeing shipmaster, killing two Sangheili, but 'Alun escaped. Meanwhile, Kidman located a nearby drop pod bay, and led his squad mates to their means of egress before the cruiser's impending explosion.{{Ref/Reuse|VU}}

==Aftermath==
All members of Fireteam Shadow escaped onboard a {{Pattern|Gloto'kef|assault carapace}} from the destruction of ''Panom's Canticle'', which then crashed into the surrounding jungle.
