The '''mutiny on Var 'Gatanai's ship''' was a [[mutiny]] instigated against [[Arbiter]] [[Var 'Gatanai]] by [[Uto 'Mdama]] upon learning that he and [[Makee]] had abandoned the [[Covenant]].
==Prelude==
Following the [[Fall of Reach/Silver|Fall of Reach]], the High Prophets recalled [[Arbiter]] [[Var 'Gatanai]]'s fleet back to ''[[High Charity/Silver|High Charity]]''. [[Makee]] desperately attempted to dissuade him, going so far as to denounce the Hierarchs, much to the Arbiter’s fury. Before he can strike her, Cortana projects an image of [[Halo Array|Sacred Ring]] from [[John-117/Silver|John-117]]'s memory of his visions of the ring. Awestruck by this "sign," Makee finally persuaded Var to take his ship away from the Holy City, going rogue with the Blessed One.{{Ref/Film|Id=Aleria|TV|Episode=[[Aleria (TV Series)|Aleria]]}}

Following his decision to disobey the High Prophets' orders, Var 'Gatanai cut off communication with ''High Charity'' and the rest of the [[Covenant fleet]]. Later, he is sharply questioned by the Sangheili priest [[Uto 'Mdama]] on the nature of their communication silence. Uto further questioned the Arbiter's reliance of Makee. 'Mdama went so far as threatened to kill her with his [[energy dagger]] until he restrained by Var, who reminded him that the human's life belongs to the Hierarchs. The priest angrily departed the bridge, with Arbiter and Makee weary of Uto's suspicions. Var 'Gatanai then asked if she has communed with the [[Keystone]], seemingly concerned with the Blessed One.{{Ref/Reuse|Onyx}}

==Battle==
When [[Cortana/Silver|Cortana]] sent a communication to [[Margaret Parangosky/Silver|Margaret Parangosky]], it was discovered by Uto. He dragged Makee before 'Gatanai and his Sangheili crew. The priest accused the human of betrayal and insisted that she should be put to death. The Arbiter, seemingly enraged by this treachery, prepared to execute Makee with his [[Energy sword (fiction)|energy sword]]. Instead, he pushed her away and attacked Uto and the Sangheili loyal to him. Thus began a [[mutiny]] aboard the Covenant ship, between the Arbiter's warriors and the priest's.{{Ref/Reuse|Onyx}}

In the midst of the chaos, Makee and [[John-117/Silver|John-117]] simultaneously touched the [[Keystone]]s{{Ref/Reuse|Onyx}} and were transported into a vision of [[Installation 04]]. The conversation ended when both came under attack on their respective sides. As the mutiny continued, Var saved Makee from one of Uto's forces. Taking the device holding Cortana, Makee fled further into the ship, chased by Uto. ==Aftermath==
The brief vision of Halo allowed Makee to pinpoint its location on a [[star map]]. Var later reported to Makee that all of Uto's forces were dead, but the mutiny ended with the crewmembers who supported Var and Makee dying too. Despite Makee admitting the truth of her failing abilities, Var remained loyal to her cause. As a result, Makee branded herself with the [[Mark of Shame]], binding the two of them together and to the Halo.{{Ref/Reuse|Thermopylae}}

However, by that point, the ship was under attack by the [[First Fleet of Solemn Accord]] as it approached [[Installation 04]].{{Ref/Reuse|Thermopylae}}
