''Metropole'' (1:29) begins with a flute solo which echoes the melody from ''[[The Last Spartan]]''. It is joined by high strings which repeat the melody. A harp joins in before low strings take over for the conclusion, playing a variation of the ''[[Halo Theme]]''. Originally composed for and played during opening of the ''[[Halo 2]]'' [[Halo 2 E3 demo|E3 demo]], the piece partially plays in the opening cinematic of the level ''[[Outskirts]]''. The piece was rearranged into ''[[Skyline (Halo 2: Anniversary)|Skyline]]'' in ''[[Halo 2: Anniversary Original Soundtrack]]''.

===Broken Gates===
''Broken Gates'' (2:47) is composed of three sections. The first section features light bass and heavy percussive beats. It plays in ''Outskirts'' when the [[Mgalekgolo]] break through the courtyard gate, hence the name. It also plays near the beginning of ''[[Gravemind (level)|Gravemind]]'', when [[John-117]] reaches where [[Thel 'Vadam]] was being publicly tortured in ''[[High Charity]]''. It transitions into the second section with strings and vocals. The second section features electric guitar and a male vocal. It plays when [[Avery Johnson]] boards the Pelican and John-117 enters an alley occupied by [[Yanme'e]] and [[Kig-Yar Sniper]]s. The percussive beats returns to accompany the electric guitar for the third section. It plays in the encounter with {{Pattern|Ruwaa|Shadow}}s in the highway tunnel at the end of the level ''Outskirts''. The third section was rearranged into ''[[Out of Shadow]]'' in ''[[Halo 3: Original Soundtrack]]''. The third and first sections were rearranged into ''[[Moon Over Mombasa]]'' and ''[[Moon Over Mombasa, Pt. 2]]'' in ''Halo 2: Anniversary Original Soundtrack'', respectively.

===Encounter===
''Encounter'' (2:25) begins with a percussion version of the second part of ''[[Ghosts of Reach]]''. It plays during the "A Day at the Beach" chapter of ''Outskirts''. A transition of strings and vocals lead into a militaristic percussion with a focus on snare drums. It plays during the opening cutscene of ''[[Metropolis]]''. The second part of the piece was rearranged into ''[[Africa Suite]]'' in ''Halo 2: Anniversary Original Soundtrack''.
