Lurker

From Halopedia, the Halo wiki

The Lurkers is a colloquial term coined by the Defenders of the Sanctum to describe the phenomena of beings who have come into direct contact with a Precursor dimensional rift used to power a superweapon remaining in the physical world as ghostly beings.[1]

Characteristics[edit]

When an organic being comes into contact with a dimensional rift when it is active, whether by falling into it or jumping intentionally, they do not immediately disintegrate. Instead, these beings remain in some form in the physical world. They appear to have some form of consciousness, as they are capable of following and stalking individuals through a Precursor facility, described as "floating around in the walls... always watching and ever present". These forms would dissipate after an extended period of time, usually not exceeding two years. The general appearance of the Lurkers during this time is unknown.[1]

Sightings[edit]

Sometime between the First Battle of Netherop and the Second Battle of Netherop, an unknown and presumably human craft began attempting to break through the Covenant orbital mine shell, presumably to rescue the UNSC personnel marooned on the planet. The Defenders of the Sanctum, who were residing in the Sanctum of the Ancients, chose to fire upon this craft with the Divine Hand. While they were doing this, three human castaways jumped into the rift, attempting to gain access to the Sanctum. These humans became the Lurkers and they stalked the Defenders. Their constant presence and surveillance took a considerable mental toll on the Sangheili, causing four of them to flee into the desert to their deaths and leaving the rest in a shaken state.[1]
