Illusion is set within the [[Office of Naval Intelligence]]'s [[ONI Ilex Facility|Ilex Facility]] Lab W17, where experiments on [[Covenant]] [[active camouflage]] and [[overshield]] technologies were once conducted. This research resulted in the creation of the Multifunctional Emitter Prototype, a room-size device which projects an energy field capable of applying the effects of either active camouflage or overshield to personnel within the room.
