The '''HRUNTING/YGGDRASIL Mark II [D] Armor Defense System''', nicknamed the '''Geyrion'''{{Ref/Book|Id=Enc22|Enc22|Page=77}} and sometimes known colloquially as the '''mega-Mantis''',{{Ref/Site|Id=CFFolks|URL=https://www.halowaypoint.com/en-us/news/folks-need-heroes|Site=Halo Waypoint|Page=Folks Need Heroes|D=30|M=06|Y=2017}} is a [[powered exoskeleton]] developed by the [[Materials Group]].{{Ref/Book|Id=H4EVG|H4EVG|Page=208}}
The '''Cyclops Mark II''' is the second generation of the [[HRUNTING Mark III (B) Exoskeleton|Cyclops]] [[powered exoskeleton]]. It is armed with a multi-barrelled cannon on its right "arm" and what appears to be an array of rocket launchers on the other. The Mark II is considerably larger than its predecessor, appearing to be about thirty feet tall.<ref name="metacafe">[http://www.metacafe.com/watch/8185354/frank_oconnor_halo_4_interview_at_microsoft_spring_shocase_2012/ '''MetaCafe''': ''Frank O'Connor Interview - Microsoft Spring Showcase 2012'']</ref> Superficially, it bears closer resemblance to the [[HRUNTING/YGGDRASIL Mark I Prototype Exoskeleton]], a parallel successor to the Mark I, than to the original Cyclops.

===Design details===
The formal designation for the original Cyclops model, "HRUNTING Mark III [B] Exoskeleton," was derived from its development lineage as an offshoot of the [[MJOLNIR Powered Assault Armor#Mark III exoskeleton|pre-MJOLNIR Mark III exoskeleton]].<ref>'''[[Halo: The Essential Visual Guide]]''', ''page 44''</ref> However, instead of using the same designation scheme for the next-generation Cyclops, the Mark II appears to have been designated based on a new system in which the original Cyclops is retroactively classified as "Mark I." This change may have been implemented to highlight the difference between the Cyclops and MJOLNIR families and in order to avoid the two Mark-based generational systems overlapping.
The Mark II [D] is an extremely large vehicle, towering over humans - even when crouched. Its overall form bears a large outward resemblance to the later [[HRUNTING/YGGDRASIL Mark IX Mantis|Mark IX Mantis]] pressed into service as a more standard vehicle. Like the Mantis, it is armed with a multi-barreled cannon on its right boom and an array of missile launchers on the other.{{Ref/Map|Id=Adrift|H4|Adrift}}

The Geyrion is a part of the Mark II project line of exoskeletons, developed by the [[Materials Group]] as part of joint projects [[Project HRUNTING|HRUNTING]]/[[Project YGGDRASIL|YGGDRASIL]], illustrating the limits of human technology. The Geyrion was used to prove out the basic idea of large bipedal walkers, and was successful in proving capable in early trials conducted in microgravity environments. Unfortunately, the Geyrion suffered in more regular [[Earth]]-like terrestrial environments, and its limited mobility proved to be a massive hinderance in all but the most specialised deployments [[Post-Covenant War conflicts|following]] the end of the [[Human-Covenant War]].{{Ref/Reuse|Enc22}} A next-generation successor to the Mark II [D] was eventually developed by [[Hannibal Weapon Systems]] and the [[Materials Group]], known as the [[HRUNTING/YGGDRASIL Mark II (J) Colossus|Mark II <nowiki>[J]</nowiki>]] and commonly nicknamed the "Colossus".{{Ref/Reuse|CFFolks}}{{Ref/Site|Id=CFOD|URL=https://www.halowaypoint.com/en-us/news/outpost-discoveries|Site=Halo Waypoint|Page=Canon Fodder - Outpost Discoveries|D=30|M=09|Y=2019}}{{Ref/Twitter|GrimBrotherOne|1174714558654496769|Jeff Easterling|Quote=In the HRUNTING/YGGDRASIL line.|D=15|M=05|Y=2022}}

One Geyrion walker was present aboard {{CAAShip|Heavy Burden}} some time following the destruction of [[Kholo]] in [[2539]].{{Ref/Reuse|Adrift}}

==Production notes==
A Mark II [D] aboard the freighter {{CAAShip|Heavy Burden}} serves as the centerpiece of the ''Halo 4'' multiplayer map [[Adrift]]. In an interview [[Frank O'Connor]] called the mech a "Cyclops Mark II", referring to the [[Cyclops]] from ''Halo Wars''.{{Ref/YouTube|6wYTo-g6OaU|gamesradararchive|Frank O'Connor Halo 4 Interview at Microsoft Spring Shocase 2012}} However, ''[[Halo 4: The Essential Visual Guide]]'' makes no mention of this name. Since "Cyclops" is merely a colloquialism for the [[HRUNTING Mark III (B) Exoskeleton|HRUNTING Mark III [B]]], itself derived from the [[MJOLNIR Powered Assault Armor#Prototype exoskeletons|third-generation exoskeleton]] that predated MJOLNIR, the "Cyclops Mark II" moniker was probably used only from a game-design perspective rather than having any canonical significance.

In Greek mythology, [[Wikipedia:Geryon|Geryon]] is a large giant, and presumably the namesake of the Geyrion vehicle. It is unknown as to whether the Geyrion's name in the ''[[Halo Encyclopedia (2022 edition)]]'' is an intentional misspelling or a typo.
