Brothers in Arms is the third track in Halo: Original Soundtrack.
The ending of the song appears on the Main Menu of Halo: Combat Evolved and the opening and closing cutscenes of the level Pillar of Autumn. It also plays twice during the level The Truth and Reconciliation, once outside the ship, and once near the brig where Captain Keyes is being held. It also plays during the ending cutscene. It also plays in the Shuttle bay if all or nearly all of the marines are dead, Cortana will call Echo 419 for reinforcements, after opening the bay the song will play. This song's ending is exactly the same as the opening to the Halo 2 track "Impend".

Overview
The song plays as the Master Chief and Cortana abandon the UNSC Pillar of Autumn, and its tone is suitably martial for the situation. It opens with a synthetic drum beat; starting at 00:06, the melody of the piece begins on the flute. At 00:32, the melody segues over to strings, who continue the piece's main motif an octave lower. They are shortly joined by a fanfare on synth organ. At 01:00, the drums fade out, allowing the strings and flute to slow the tempo and bring the piece in for its serene conclusion.

Production notes
The composition of Brothers in Arms began in early 2001 as Battle Sketch, a piece played on piano by Martin O'Donnell. He later added the percussion and brass to the arrangement, alongside strings, a choir and woodwind instruments. O'Donnell continued to work on the piece in some form or another during the production of Halo 2 and Halo 3, ultimately recording the final rendition in 2007. Although the piece was known as Brother in Arms during production, it was included in Halo 3: Original Soundtrack under the title Follow Our Brothers.
