Shane was a Spartan-III super soldier. He was born in 2525 and was orphaned when his parents were killed in The Battle of Harvest in 2531. He was sent to an orphanage after he was evacuated until he volunteered for the Spartan III project at age of six. He swore to get revenge on the Covenant for killing his family and destroying his home planet.
Shane was sent to Camp Currahee on Onyx to be trained with Alpha Company. The first day there, he was pushed out of a Pelican by another Spartan recruit, Robert, during a Falcon Wing descent exercise during night time. When he landed, he thought he had wetted his pants, but in actuality, he had the skin on the back of his legs rubbed raw when he landed. [1] When they both landed on the ground, he and Robert began to fight, and had to be broken up by Chief Petty Officer Mendez and "Lt. Ambrose" [2]
Despite Shane's scuffle with Robert in the initiation he eventually grew close to both Robert and Jane, and together they were part of Team Wolf Pack. He was killed during Operation: PROMETHEUS, along with all 300 Spartans of Alpha Company, by a Plasma Mortar that caused him to fly in the air and land face first, unmoving and lifeless. [3] The last time Shane is seen alive, however is when Kurt, together with Colonel Ackerson, Mendez, Vice Admiral Parangosky and Rear Admiral Rich watches him fight for a moment through a unknown Spartan's video cam until he, along with Team Wolf Pack, dies.[4]
He is most likely assumed to be killed in action but without any evidential proofs he must be listed as MIA or WIA, since SPARTANS are never listed as KIA.
