Summary
DATE: July 3, 2545
LOCATION: Pegasi Delta
Involved: UNSC Spartan-IIIs, Covenant forces
Synopsis: This battle was necessary for the survival of the UNSC. It took place on the planet Pegasi Delta. The mission was to destroy its extractor that was rich in minerals, which supplied Covenant factories. The success of the mission would save countless lives.
Outcome: Beta Company succeeds, but at a great cost. No Spartans, except Tom and Lucy (Mute) survive. All Covenant forces ground side of the planet are wiped out.
Timeline
July 3, 2545
- 300 Spartan-III's are landed on the surface of Pegasi Delta via Long Range Stealth Orbital Insertion Pods. The last pod lands at 1135 Hours on July 3, 2545. Nine of the Spartans are killed on impact, and the other 291 begin a frontal charge of the facility.[1]
- The Spartans are attacked by waves of Seraph fighters and Sniper Jackals which, despite the Spartans' SPI Armor, cut down over a hundred of the super-soldiers. [2] Several Spartan-IIIs with rocket launchers destroy a few of the strafing Seraphs.
- The attacked Spartans panic and declare code Omega Three. [3]
- Seven Covenant cruisers appear and begin landing Elite and Jackal forces while using their intraship plasma weapons to rain fire on the pinned Spartans.
- Four Spartan-III's make it to the facilities' core, but two are quickly killed. The last two Spartans, Tom and Lucy, successfully overload the core, then escape by jumping off a cliff into a deuterium ocean. They watch as the rest of the company is pinned and slaughtered by the Covenant forces just before the facility blows, destroying everything.[4]
- The two Spartan-IIIs retreat aboard one of the eight pre-inserted Black Cat subprowlers and fall back to UNSC space.[5]
