Flood is a War Games gametype in Halo 4.[1] It is the successor of the Infection gametype.[2]

Description

At the begining of each round, two players spawn as Flood combat forms while eight players spawn as survivors. The combat forms have a larger field of vision, and a claw which is analogous to the energy sword used in Infection. The objective of the eight human surviors is to avoid death as long as possible.[1] The Spartan survivors are equipped with shotguns and magnums while the Flood can only use a melee attack. When the survivor is killed by a Flood, they are converted and respawn a Flood. The round ends if a Survivor makes it to 3 minutes or once all players are converted into Flood. Player's initial spawn is based on previous rounds.[2]

Each Flood character has a special armor effect that trails behind them and a first-person screen effect that shows a haunted view from the Flood's perspective. Dynamic music plays in the background to intensify the experience when playing as the Flood or final survivor. Flood move faster, react differently to bullets, and are equipped with an enhanced Flood thruster pack.[2] Unlike Infection in Halo: Reach, infected Spartans in Halo 4 are equipped with energy shields, greatly mitigating the potential for Flood players to be picked off by magnum-wielding survivors.
