It was named after Odysseus' dog in Homer's epic poem, ''The Odyssey''. Argo the dog was so loyal that he waited for his master for twenty years and collapsed dead after finally seeing that he was still alive.
It was named after the Argo, Jason's ship in Greek Myth, said to have been planned or constructed by the goddess Athena, and on which Jason and the Argonauts sailed to Colchis retreive the Golden Fleece.

The Argo was a UNSC scout ship. Though small, it was equipped with a Shaw-Fujikawa Slipspace Drive.

It was sent to the Harvest system in 2525 after the UNSC lost contact with that world. It sent a signal back informing the command that it had dropped out of Slipspace, but after that nothing was heard from it. It is assumed destroyed by the Covenant cruiser later found in the system by the UNSC Heracles.[1]

It was named after the Argo, Jason's ship in Greek Myth, said to have been planned or constructed by the goddess Athena, and on which Jason and the Argonauts sailed to Colchis retreive the Golden Fleece.
