New Jerusalem was a large United Nations Space Command colony in the Human-held Cygnus System that was glassed in 2552.[1] The city of Mount Haven was located on the colony.[2][note 1] It was discovered by the Covenant late in the Human-Covenant War and was known to be defended by the 26th Marine Expeditionary Force, who suffered 'near annihilation' in the Battle of New Jerusalem. The Rookie fought at New Jerusalem as part of the 26th Marine Expeditionary Force, before transferring to his current unit.[3]

- ^ It has been confirmed in a comment by Tobias Buckell here that the rookie in Dirt is the same character as The Rookie from Halo 3: ODST. Thus, the battle depicted in the story has to be the Battle of New Jerusalem, as it was the last battle in which The Rookie participated before the Battle of Earth.
