"No prison can hold a free mind."
— Famous words from Yera's journal.[1]

Yera Sabinus was an insurrectionist philosopher and renowned spiritual leader among the dissidents.[1]

Biography[edit]

In 2495, Yera was incarcerated at Colonial Administration Authority Detention Center 3063-OM-Y. She died during a cellblock riot and a journal of hers that she had been writing in her own blood on toilet paper was discovered soon afterward under her bed during a facility-wide shakedown. Her words were scanned into the inmate record at the prison and became immortalized. Her journal held no indication that she had anything to do with starting the riot and over sixty years later, the Forerunner archeon-class ancilla, Intrepid Eye, suspected that an enterprising guard had taken advantage of the chaos to silence an unruly prisoner.[1]

In 2559, Safina Nyakundi, an active member of the Peoples' Resistance of Mombasa, received a copy of Yera's prison journal from her friend and ally, Bakari the librarian. Before the Mombasa-based group enacted their own rebellious plans to undermine the Created, Nyakundi read chapters from the book to pass the time. Despite the risks involved, she maintained her resolve and defied the Created by helping transmit classified news of Doisac's destruction on Waypoint Radio. As Nyakundi surrendered herself over to the Created, her mind reflected on Yera Sabinus and the words of resistance the insurrectionist writer had left behind.[2]
