Virtuous Deed was a Covenant battlecruiser during the Thirteenth Age of Conflict.[1]
History[edit]
In the Thirteenth Age of Conflict, the Virtuous Deed landed on an island on a remote water planet while searching for Forerunner relics for the shipmaster to gift to the San'Shyuum in the hope of attaining their favor. While nothing of use was found there, the crew encountered a Flood containment facility that inevitably led to a Flood outbreak. As they were unfamiliar with the danger they had found, many of the Covenant troops were quickly assimilated and a handful of survivors fled back to their battlecruiser. The Flood swarmed across the ship and assaulted it from the outside. Recognizing the threat should the Flood take control the ship and depart the system, the shipmaster had Virtuous Deed's engines permanently disabled and the weapons systems taken offline, a task that cost the lives of most of the remaining crew. The few survivors barricaded themselves in the impregnable containment core, preferring a slow death over the Flood. The crew debated whether or not to detonate the core and destroy themselves, the island and the Flood outbreak. However, the Flood bit, scraped and hammered themselves against the solid walls and structures of the ship until the core eventually gave way and the crew was assimilated before a decision could be made. A few cycles later, the Rueful Respite received an errant transmission from the Virtuous Deed's glitching communications system revealing these events. The shipmaster of the Rueful Respite deemed it to be too dangerous for anyone to venture to the planet's surface and annihilated the assimilated battlecruiser from orbit before glassing the planet to contain the outbreak.[1]
The story of the battlecruiser's encounter with the Flood became legendary amongst the Covenant.[1]
