The UNSC ''Ghost Song'' was built to be part of [[Ghost Flight]], a flight of four {{Class|Razor|prowler}}s within the [[Office of Naval Intelligence]]'s [[UNSC Prowler Corps|Prowler Corps]].{{Ref/Reuse|HSS8}} At some point during the [[Insurrection]], [[Lieutenant Commander]] [[Hector Nyeto]] became the commander of the ''Ghost Song'' and all of Ghost Flight, slowly replacing the crew of each vessel with personnel sympathetic to the [[insurrectionist]] cause.{{Ref/Novel|Id=HSS16|HSS|Chapter=16}}{{Ref/Reuse|HSS25}} When [[Vice Admiral]]s [[Preston Cole]] and [[Michael Stanforth]] initiated [[Operation: SILENT STORM]] in [[2526#March|March 2526]], the flight was selected to join [[Task Force Yama]] for the duration of the mission. On [[2526#March|March 18, 2526]], the ''Ghost Song'' approached [[Seoba ice quarry|an ice quarry]] on Seoba with a drop bay packed with the full [[platoon|First Platoon]] of the [[21st Space Assault Battalion|Black Daggers]], [[SPARTAN-II program|Spartan-II]] [[John-117]], and [[Staff Sergeant]] [[Avery Johnson]]. Initially, this [[Battle of Seoba#Operation: ICE DANCE|mission]] had been formulated to train the [[Orbital Drop Shock Troopers|ODST]]s and Spartans for rapid deployment. However, insurrectionist activity had been detected in the quarry. By the order of [[Colonel]] [[Marmon Crowther]], the prowlers continued their deployment runs with the intent to take the quarry for themselves as they prepared to ambush the Covenant, who were believed to be targeting Biko next.{{Ref/Reuse|HSS7}}

As the first four ODSTs dove through the jump hatch, they were instantly torn to shreds by the [[12.7×99mm Armor-Piercing|armor-piercing rounds]] spewed from multiple [[M41 Vulcan]] emplacements. The next team of four ODSTs did not hesitate as they jumped next, and were similarly turned to bloody ribbons. [[Lieutenant]] [[Nelly Hamm]], the platoon leader, ordered her men to abort the jump as John moved forward to peer out of the hatch at their assailants below. After a brief discussion on what to do next, John took the initiative and jumped from the prowler with his [[M41 SPNKR|rocket launcher]] in hand, ignoring Hamm's protests. After [[Blue Team]] softened up the insurgents' weapon emplacements, the ''Ghost Song'' and the rest of Ghost Flight's prowlers performed strafing runs on the defenders and dropped more of the Black Daggers until they were low on ammunition and the {{UNSCShip|Ghost Star}} was shot down.{{Ref/Reuse|HSS8}} Ultimately, with Blue Team unwittingly used to distract the entrenched insurgents, Hamm had Nyeto return with Ghost Flight and deploy more troops, destroying the weapon emplacements and taking the quarry.{{Ref/Novel|Id=HSS10|HSS|Chapter=10}}

===Sabotaging Spartans===

The next day, the ''Ghost Song'' was landed within the quarry as Lieutenant Commander Nyeto attended a meeting hosted by [[Captain (NAVCOM)|Captain]] [[Halima Ascot]] to discuss the events of the previous day's battle. While this was discussed, [[Bloodstar Flotilla|a flotilla]] of five Covenant [[intrusion corvette]]s arrived in-system and set course for Seoba. Ascot and Nyeto rushed to their ships to prepare them and the rest of the task force for battle, hoping to use the Black Daggers to board and destroy the vessels from the inside.{{Ref/Novel|Id=HSS11|HSS|Chapter=11}} Along with Nyeto, Colonel Crowther boarded the ''Ghost Song'' to coordinate the Black Daggers' efforts.{{Ref/Reuse|HSS16}} When Ascot's {{UNSCShip|Starry Night}} was shot down and crashed into the ice quarry, Nyeto frantically transmitted from the prowler asking if the rest of the task force knew the ''Starry Night''{{'}}s status. However, Crowther cut him off, telling him to proceed as planned and observe [[Protocol Echo]], effectively reminding him of the unknown extent of Covenant eavesdropping technology. Still, Crowther would try to find available Black Dagger units to secure the ''Starry Night'', but could not find any that would be able to do so without risking another prowler. No one except the Spartans were available to assist, and he had pulled them from the mission after discovering their true ages.{{Ref/Novel|Id=HSS13|HSS|Chapter=13}}

Regardless, John-117 and the other Spartans took it upon themselves to search for the ''Starry Night'', requesting from Nyeto a [[Navigation point|waypoint]] leading to its projected crash site. As the other prowlers attempted to evade the Covenant's bombardment of Seoba, Nyeto took effective command of the task force. From aboard the ''Ghost Song'', he and Crowther also communicated with John. The Spartans located the crash site, but found that [[Worthy Silence|a corvette]] had already arrived and was seemingly trying to recover the ''Starry Night''. John requested support from Nyeto while he worked on boarding the prowler and activating its [[Nuclear weapon|nuclear]] [[self-destruct]] system.{{Ref/Novel|Id=HSS14|HSS|Chapter=14}} While promising that support was arriving as soon as possible, Nyeto stalled for at least eight full minutes, trying to get the Spartans killed.{{Ref/Reuse|HSS16}} With more corvettes arriving, the situation on the ground quickly deteriorated and some of the Spartans became injured. After repeated requests from John, Nyeto finally sent in his prowlers, destroying two corvettes in a strafing run and scaring off a third. Still, the original corvette that was still attempting to capture the ''Starry Night'' was left unscathed. A team led by [[Frederic-104]] was able to enter the prowler, rescue the few survivors within, and arm its [[Fury tactical nuclear weapon|nuke]].
