G-617[Note 1] is a binary star system situated along the outermost edge of the Milky Way.[1] It contains eleven planets, including G-617 g, where the Forerunners first encountered the Flood,[2] thus beginning the Forerunner-Flood War and setting into motion the events that followed.
Trivia[edit]
- The designation of the system given by the terminal is a reference to Genesis 6:17, wherein God warns Noah that he's about to unleash a devastating flood upon the world.
- The designation is of human origin,[2] implying that the system had already been observed and catalogued by humanity prior to the Battle of Installation 00.
