groups

yeah, i saw that, thanks. i added some stuff about 5 minutes after you made it, as i saw it on recent changes and decided to check it out. thanks again.

The Lieutenant General 01:44, 14 March 2007 (UTC)

image help

do you know how to add an image from wikipedia into Halopedia? do i save it into my hard drive, and then upload it, or something else? thanks,

The Lieutenant General 20:50, 14 March 2007 (UTC)

The image must be saved to your computer, then uploaded to Halopedia using Special:Upload before it can be used. -ED 20:52, 14 March 2007 (UTC)

merge

sorry to bother u, but we (UoH) didnt really wanna merge, we were sorta pressured into it by rr and other "important" users. Spartytime 21:10, 14 March 2007 (UTC)
There are no "more important" users. If you don't want to merge, let the group know, or at least put it up for a group vote. -ED 21:14, 14 March 2007 (UTC)

Kalmiya

Kalmiya (A.I.) needs to be moved to Kalmiya per naming convention, and it won't let me do it over the redirect, so if you could do that, it wouldn't really be greatly appreciated, but, you know, yeah. ;D guesty-persony-thingy File:GPersonyThingy.jpeg 21:12, 14 March 2007 (UTC)

OK, I'll take care of it. -ED 21:14, 14 March 2007 (UTC)

merge

sorry, we had a miscue. At first we didint like the merge, but then we realized we needed techinical help, itd also be good advertising on the CoH page. Sorry. Spartytime 22:23, 14 March 2007 (UTC)
You can get technical help from other users, AND you can advertise on your own pages if you want. -ED 00:51, 15 March 2007 (UTC)

Wrighter

you said your a wrighter on ya user page so can you have alook at the first part of my fanfiction navel on my user page User:Kami-Sama

Yes, I'll take a look at it later. -ED 01:15, 15 March 2007 (UTC)

Question made moot...

You said that the question on the Scarab talk page was since made moot by Halo:Ghost of Onyx, but, since I don't have the book on my person, could you clarify? Do you mean they're definitely mining thingys, or something else, or am I misunderstanding something, or am I awesome? Thanks. guesty-persony-thingy 01:07, 15 March 2007 (UTC)

In the book, there was another scarab on Earth, in Havana, the one that Will destroyed. It was called "Scarab Attack walker" or something like that, I believe; and the Covenant's purpose at Havana to to secure the elevator above ground. That, coupled with the description from the HGN, the Scarabs are definately assault walkers designed to clear out Human interference on a large scale before ground troops move in, just like the tripods on "War of the Worlds" -ED 01:13, 15 March 2007 (UTC)

Image Links?

I don't supose that you know how to make images links, do you? For example, the following is a normal link:

Now, doing the same thing, but replacing the text with an image. Making an image a redirect?

--Councilor 'Nodotee File:Donut 7.JPG [BattleNet] - [Covenant of Halopedia] 01:01, 17 March 2007 (UTC)
Yeah, you just add a colon before the first letter in the link, like this: [[:Image:Halo.jpg]], the result is a direct link, like this: Image:Halo.jpg. This also works for categories. -ED 19:11, 19 March 2007 (UTC)

General Disclaimer

Do you know if we can edit the bar at the bottom of the pages? right now it just says "About Wikia", "Terms of use" etc, but on old.halopedia we had the General Disclaimer down there. We should have an easy link to the disclaimer since it's the place where we warn users about spoilers. -ED 21:56, 15 March 2007 (UTC)

I saw that you were talking about this did you get any answers? The only way I know how to do it is to edit the MonoBook.php -- Esemono 12:32, 18 March 2007 (UTC):

How do I change the footer?

To add or remove items from the footer on your MediaWiki page[1], you must edit the skin.

For example: if you go in to MonoBook.php (located by default in the "Skins" folder) you will find the following code:

 $footerlinks = array(
   'lastmod', 'viewcount', 'numberofwatchingusers', 'credits', 'copyright',
   'privacy', 'about', 'disclaimer', 'tagline',
  );

In the above you can simply add and remove items from the footer that you wish to appear in your footer. Remember the changes may not appear immediatly because of MediaWiki caches.

You can also customize the individual items by modifying certain pages or parameters:

  • lastmod - edit MediaWiki:Lastmodified
  • viewcount - edit MediaWiki:Viewcount
  • numberofwatchingusers - edit MediaWiki:Number of watching users pageview. This only appears if you also add $wgPageShowWatchingUsers = true; to LocalSettings.php.
  • copyright - edit MediaWiki:Copyright. The parameter $1 on that page is replaced with a link to the details of copyright for your wiki. In LocalSettings.php $wgRightsText for the link text and set either $wgRightsPage or $wgRightsUrl with the location of a wiki page or external URL.
  • privacy - this is a link only. Edit MediaWiki:Privacy for the link text and MediaWiki:Privacypage for the wiki page to which to link.
  • about - this is a link only. Edit MediaWiki:Aboutsite for the link text and MediaWiki:Aboutpage for the wiki page to which to link.
  • disclaimer - this is a link only. Edit MediaWiki:Disclaimers for the link text and MediaWiki:Disclaimerpage for the wiki page to which to link.
Hmm. Yeah, Angela says its not possible. -ED 19:12, 19 March 2007 (UTC)

Forerunner's "Joke Section"

It started as a little joke by RR, but now it's getting out of hand. See here. I'm fine with a little joke on someone's userpage, I'll even tolerate numerous copies of it once we know what's going on, but now he's putting innappropriate jokes at the bottom of his page. The first one is just stupid and not funny, but the other one is offensive in more ways than one:

  1. Promotes bestiality,
  2. Insults British army, as bin Laden would be caught if he was in Wales, and
  3. Insults Muslims, saying that bin Laden can do whatever he wants with them.

I am requesting that this childish nonsense be removed, and, if this kind of stuff from Forerunner continues, that he be given a temporary ban to let him see what's wrong with his actions. Güéߣ¥-éҐøñ¥-ħîИg¥ 18:32, 18 March 2007 (UTC)

I think you should confront him about how you find it offensive. Since it is on his own userpage, we do not yet have a developed policy for userpage content that is not fanon. -ED 19:18, 19 March 2007 (UTC)

help!

Dear Ed,

Lumpy has erased Sogy's talk page and written "yo mama" twice! Could you give him like one of 'em 1-hour bans or something?!

Thanks. =D

re:Forum & MediaWiki?

Dear Ed,

Hello!

I'm not sure what I can do with MediaWiki, as I believe the forum function is uneditable and unseeable as well...but lemme investigate when I get home. =D

Cheers,

Ghost Inside the Machine (Whisper through the Storm) (My Journeys) (Omens) 20:27, 20 March 2007 (UTC)

Ok. It doesn't make sense that Wikia would just erase the Forum software completely, I'm sure there is some way to keep the Forum header. -ED 20:36, 20 March 2007 (UTC)
I'll see what I can do, Ed, but again - I think with newer versions of MediaWiki, the forum function is embedded. I'll see, though. =D Cheers, Ghost Inside the Machine (Whisper through the Storm) (My Journeys) (Omens) 20:38, 20 March 2007 (UTC)
It's not embedded - it is modifyable. However, I don't have administrator access to modify it, and I'll need a fair amount of research to do before I even have an idea what to do. =D I can conduct this at home tonight or tommorrow night. =D Cheers, Ghost Inside the Machine (Whisper through the Storm) (My Journeys) (Omens) 20:46, 20 March 2007 (UTC)
Heh OK. I apprciate it. Don't know much about how the forums work. -ED 20:51, 20 March 2007 (UTC)

Idea

Hello sir! I come hear with an anti vandal Idea: create Halopedia's own version of this page:

Wikipedia:Administrator intervention against vandalism

Like that people could post warnings about vandals during an attack for further warning to others and possible assistance to you, without taking up your talk page space. Just a suggestion sir.--16807 Penitent Spark File:H3 Monitor.PNG [Communications] [File History] 20:57, 20 March 2007 (UTC)

We already have one user group, Halopedia: Anti Vandal Coalition, which fights vandalsim. Administrators are part of that group and keep a close eye on vandalism from there. -ED 21:06, 20 March 2007 (UTC)

what the halo...me hates MediaWiki =D

Dear Ed,

Okay, two pieces of information:

1. Please add the following to MediaWiki:Monobook.css:

span.mw-plusminus-pos {color: #006400;}
span.mw-plusminus-neg {color: #8B0000;}
span.mw-plusminus-neg { color: #FF0000; font-weight: bold;}

It's regarding recent changes and is useful, I assure you.

2. I'm still looking into forum problem. I believe that it's a joint MediaWiki/our coding problem. The code that I implanted into the forum page to make new forum pages may have something to do with it...I'll investigate further. =D

3. Thanks for your support! =D

Cheers,

Ghost Inside the Machine (Whisper through the Storm) (My Journeys) (Omens) 21:02, 20 March 2007 (UTC)

nononono! no! don't add it to MediaWiki Monobook! nononono! My very grave mistake! MediaWiki Commons, wherever that page is, please! Commons, not Monobook! *RR grimaces* Cheers, Ghost Inside the Machine (Whisper through the Storm) (My Journeys) (Omens) 21:07, 20 March 2007 (UTC)
I'll add it to the commons. -ED 21:26, 20 March 2007 (UTC)
Done. If it isn't working, let me know. -ED 21:35, 20 March 2007 (UTC)

Image Warning

Ed, you sent me an image warning:

Image Your image, Image:Yamnzzin.JPG is a duplicate image of Image:Ultracapt.jpg and will probably Deleted. Halopedia has a policy of not having dulicate images, so please look in our Image categories for an image before uploading a file. -ED 20:45, 20 March 2007 (UTC)

                 THX, -- Ptowery 21:08, 20 March 2007 (UTC)

RR >> WIKIA CODING!

Dear Ed,

I am pleased to announce that the forums have been restored to their former state...I'm anticipating a problem that hasn't come up yet, but I'll run further tests and see.

Oh, and thanks for adding the coding line in MediaWiki Commons.

Cheers,

Ghost Inside the Machine (Whisper through the Storm) (My Journeys) (Omens) 23:32, 20 March 2007 (UTC)

Scratch that...a bug I didn't anticipate popped up and the bug I anticipated didn't pop up. Lolz, computers. =D Cheers, Ghost Inside the Machine (Whisper through the Storm) (My Journeys) (Omens) 23:35, 20 March 2007 (UTC)

Please

Dear Administrator,

As you are probably aware, there are substantial problems with the forums - new topics are not listed on the main forum page. This is a problem occuring on other Wikis as well, which I am trying to rectify if it is a local problem, and which Wikia, Inc. will correct if it is a MediaWiki problem.

Also, please enter:

{{User:RelentlessRecusant/Sitenotice}}

Into MediaWiki:Sitenotice. I have done a large amount of research on MediaWiki v1.9, which we have just upgraded to last night, and am just detailing the ramifications of the upgrade and also announcing the forum breakdown.

Thank you.

Best regards,

Ghost Inside the Machine (Whisper through the Storm) (My Journeys) (Omens) 00:07, 21 March 2007 (UTC)

message function edits

Dear Ed,

I have done a small amount of research on the MediaWiki, and have come up with proposed MediaWiki edits on User:RelentlessRecusant/Tech. Please implement what is on there, and I believe the message function will be restored to v1.8-era by my manual patches. Thnx.

Cheers,

Ghost Inside the Machine (Whisper through the Storm) (My Journeys) (Omens) 20:38, 21 March 2007 (UTC)

Forum Fixed!

Dear Ed,

I'm pleased to announce that I have fixed the forums. The error was caused by an error in MediaWiki v1.9, but my measure is a (fully functional) stopgap before the Central Wiki fixes it and reloads it onto Halopedia.

Cheers,

Ghost Inside the Machine (Whisper through the Storm) (My Journeys) (Omens) 21:18, 21 March 2007 (UTC)

UNSC Navy Enlisted Ranks

Hey ED. Noticed that you've tagged all the UNSC Navy Enlisted Rank pages as FactOrFiction, asking for sources. If you can tell me what you mean by that specifically, I can go about finding them. -- Manticore Fleet Admiral.jpg Talk | CSV 10:16, 23 March 2007 (UTC)

The pages just need sources. Any source will do, just a place where the rank title was mentioned is fine. -ED 22:52, 23 March 2007 (UTC)

2nd Term on Fan Art Committee?

I thought users could only do one term in a row for the Fan Art Committee. However, Ryangreenday is running for re-election, is this allowed? I really don't remember, i just have a small memory somewhere in my head that i can't quite place saying "only one term in a row". Please do excuse me if I'm mistaken, i honestly don't remember. Thanks for your time.

Unyielding Hierophant pic

Ed, how come we know a lot more about unsc technology then covenant, and not many pic's of there starships. I mean we have the discriptions of these vessels in the halo books, but bungie only shows three typs of covenant ships in the curent halo games, and high chaity only shows covenant battle cruiers in there large fleet. Same goes with the Unyielding Hierophant, the "larger cariers" and the "five bubus section ship" in halo first strike, why is bungie so reluctent to show these ships or picks?--Admiral Sozai NexesLegendary.jpgFLEETCOMM 11:10, 27 March 2007 (UTC)

The Halo series is going in a different direction tahtn other sci-fi universes. Halo is immensely popular and makes huge money for bungie, as well as keeping fans like us hooked on it. Someday they may publish technical manuals, starship and fleet schematics, and the like, but for now, they have only limited manpower, and are pushing for quality over quantity. After all, Halo has a much smaller audience than Star Wars. -ED 19:45, 27 March 2007 (UTC)
Yes I know, the games make alot of money. And with the movie and other games to follow(Halo 3,halo wars), halo will proably attract more people. but they have made hundreds of books and novels that tell the whole story, staship discriptions can easly take phsical form within a persons mind, but do they ultmetly fit the apperance of the vessel in pics? bungie could at least give some sort of art, silluate, or model. No, I am not aruing on this matter, I am just voicing my opion to the unsolved mysters of halo, like the fourruners and there tecnogly.--Admiral Sozai NexesLegendary.jpgFLEETCOMM 22:54, 27 March 2007 (UTC)
Not gonna lie, I wish they would release something like that, too. It would be a lot of fun to add to the wiki. -ED 23:02, 27 March 2007 (UTC)
Me to, but one thing that excapes me is the locatons of the weapons on both the unsc and the covenant's staships--Admiral Sozai NexesLegendary.jpgFLEETCOMM 15:04, 29 March 2007 (UTC)

Any Fan fic

Since I know that you may or may not be on Halo Fanon much...(long boring explanation), you can put any fanon on the wiki. The format that we have, doesn't have to be the set design, that was just the excepted design. By the way, I gave you roll-back rights on Halo Fanon, since you are a Bureaucrat here. Anyways thanks, --H*bad 03:20, 29 March 2007 (UTC)

Rollback?

May i be granted this. Don't worry, i know how it all works, i'm an admin of the Fanon site, but it would be a lot easier for me when the next vandal strikes. I could remove his edits before he even changes the page. As you've seen this afternoon i'm watching for vandals and this would be a great help. Thanks.
